Hi Everyone,
I've become an active user of Twitter for Mexico High School this school year and I'm convinced it isn't just for kids anymore. If you have never tweeted, here's a brief primer: 1. Tweets are like short text messages that go out to all your "followers" with a twitter account - a "mass text". 2. A picture can be attached to a tweet. 3. The best description of twitter for me: It's like the combination of text messaging and "short-hand" Facebook (that's Facebook without all the clutter and advertising-it appears for now).
I've spent most of this year using an IPAD or my iPhone 5S to document some of our regular athletic events and collected some from our co-curriculars as well. In addition, teachers send information to me to tweet out. Also, I've been able to broadcast changes and even snow cancellations quickly - I gained many kid followers on our recent days out for snow, for some reason they wanted to get those tweets :) So much happens in a school year, I encourage you to set up a twitter account and follow us at MexicoMoHS. Another good piece from twitter is the ability to send out links to information on the web. Recently, your school board made some adjustments to our school calendar - I tweeted these out to about 200 followers with the link to all the changes on our school website. Yes, tweets can beat the radio and the tv AND the web to the punch.
So, do you need Twitter? - probably not, but would you LIKE it? - probably YES if you have a child in school and want to see pics from activities, events and some goings-on in the classroom - along with some important announcements.
Good times.
T.
